Hertingfordbury has picturesque houses that are set within tree-lined lanes which provides a quintessential English charm that is attractive to those seeking a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of modern life.

At the heart of this idyllic haven is the Church of St. Marys, a church has stood on this spot from as early as the 13th Century and the parish includes the wonderfully quaint hamlets of the ‘5 Greens’ these consist of Birch Green, Cole Green, East End Green, Letty Green and Staines Green

Hertingfordbury has a vibrant community with lots of activities including the Cricket Club, Tennis Club and a wide range of social events, many of which are centred around the church.

Many of the properties in the village are Grade II listed, beautifully maintained and include buildings of historical note such as; “Epcombs”, a Georgian brick house reputedly visited by Jane Austen, “Amores”, which stands in a triangle in the centre of the village and is over 500 years old and “Roxford House” in St. Mary’s Lane, which was once the home of Austrian composer Joseph Haydn

Schools in the area include St. Joseph’s in the Park, a single form Independent prep school for boys and girls aged between 3-11 years of age and which Brooklyn Beckham attended.

Hertingfordbury Cowper Primary in Birch Green was founded in 1850 and is rated as outstanding by Ofsted. Secondary Schools nearby include Hailybury Independent Boarding School, Richard Haile (Boys) and Presdales (Girls)

This part of Hertfordshire is well known for it’s stunning countryside and ancient woodland such as Broxbourne Woods, it is also highly regarded by walkers and cyclists, making Hertingfordbury a great place to base yourself if you want to enjoy the beauty of rural Hertfordshire. Walks include Panshanger Park, with its Great Oak, considered by some to be the oldest oak in England or the walk along the Cole Green Way, a tree lined disused railway line which takes you from Hertford to Welwyn Garden, a pub stop en route at the Cowper Arms is a must with its great food and warm atmosphere.

Hertingfordbury residents enjoy the best of both worlds. With the benefits of village life and being just a stones throw from the historical market town of Hertford which offers excellent local shopping with thriving markets bursting with local produce, independent boutiques and many cafés and restaurants, and the two train lines into London puts this village in perfect range for day visits or commuting.
